For horizontal grab bars the ada standards require a height between 33 and 36 inches from the finished floor of the bathroom shower or tub. My recommendation is if it s possible to test it by simulating it with the elderly person who will be using it. The problem is that installers often aim for one edge of the range and end up a bit high or low. This bar should extend at least 16 inches above it and be screwed securely into the stud inside the wall. Normally grab bars that are fastened to the wall by a toilet are placed at a height of 33 to 36 inches that s 840 to 915 mm. Generally a 16 in grab bar or a grab bar that is a multiple of 16 16 in 32 in or 48 in works best.

It is helpful to use this range as a guide for placement but the most important part is selecting a height that feels comfortable and secure for the person using them.
